A well governed town, Villa Park is run by a city board, who consists of a President and elected board of trustees. The board manages daily operations of the city, and meets weekly in the Village Hall to vote and make city-level decisions.

Additionally, the government is coordinated by a variety of city boards, including a commission on local utilities, community development and historical preservation.

Major public meeting agendas are available for public viewing and review, and open to public ideas. Local ordinances are passed by the boards, along with a variety of local agencies, which are administered independently. Major departments include parks and recreation, finance, fire and police, public works and parks and recreation.

As a growing commercial suburb outside of Chicago, Villa Park has an active job market in a variety of areas. A relatively high median income, above the state average, is a product of young professionals and high technology industries located in the region.

Large industries in the area include hospitality, insurance, education, health care and scientific research. Local office parks offer support for a large variety of commercial industries, ranging from research to financial services. Most area professionals have college degrees, and there are a number of graduate level professionals in the area.

Recent local job listings in the area, range from financial auditing to educational assistances and sales associates. With the growth of a variety of industries within the Chicago area, a number of commercial offices are expanding into Villa Park, where real estate rates are more reasonable and terms are more flexible for local businesses.

Located just outside of the center of Chicago, Villa Park has an ideal location for business or leisure travel. Accessible via major transportation lines, Villa Park is easy to navigation with its combination of public and private transportation options.

Chicago-Area Airports
As a national and international hub for travelers, the Chicago area is served by two major airports: O’Hare International Airport, which is the main hub for both United and American Airlines, as well as Chicago Midway International Airport, which is a primary hub for Southwest and Air Tran low-cost providers. Additionally, travelers can visit a variety of local and regional air fields, including the Gary, Indiana Airport, and the Rockford International Airport.

Ground Transportation
With a hub for Metra Union Pacific line running through the city, commuters have direct access to Villa Park from the Chicago region. Additionally, taxis and car rentals are available to travel throughout the regional area.

There are two major high schools in the Villa Park area, each of which provide a highly level of educational excellent. As a highly rated public schools, Villa Park offers an impressive rate of college placement, as well as career development at multiple levels:

Addison Trail High Schools
Located on North Lombard Road, Addison Trail has over 500 students participating in Advanced Placement course work, and a highly level of placement in top level schools. With over 2/3 of the student body enrolled in extra-curricular, the school has a well rounded campus that focuses on academics and athletics alike. While the current building dates back to 1966, a bond issue passed in 2007 is working to renovate and create new construction over the coming years. As part of the development, the high school now has wireless internet, an expanded parking lot and improved public safety.

Willowbrook High School
Centrally located on Ardmore Avenue, Willowbrook high school was named one of Newsweek’s top high schools this past year. A leading academic institutions, Willowbrook has an impressive academic and career placement rate on a national basis, sending students to top regional and national universities on a yearly basis, as well as competing at the highest level in a variety of sports.

Local Art Festivals

As a hub for the Chicago arts and cultural scene, Villa Park hosts a variety of arts festivals each year. Focusing on local and regional artists and performers, the events showcase a variety of talent in the Chicago area. Our editors reviewed two of the largest events in the area:

The upcoming 2009 Summerfest, to be held in the Ardmore Business District on June 20, showcases a variety of local merchants. Running all day (from 11 a.m. until nine at night), the Fest will feature a special NASCAR tent, a simulated climbing wall and a Moon Jump simulation, in addition to local merchants. Additionally, a special music stage with live entertainment will focus on local musicians, who will play as food is served from local restaurants and families enjoy children’s activities throughout the day.

Autumn Arts and Crafts Festival
Held ever August at the Odeum, the craft fair features over 400 booths with merchants ranging from fine artists to craftsmen and photographers. With open attendance for children, the event is ideal for families. Held in conjunction with a variety of regional Autumn Festivals, the Villa Park craft fest has a rich history dating back over 25 years.
